The PuXuan Ultimate Hutong Experience
Celebrating the rich history of its location, The PuXuan Hotel and Spa invites guests on a walking tour through Beijing’s distinctive, maze-like alleys known as hutongs. Enjoy a stroll to ShiJia Hutong, believed to have been built during the Ming Dynasty, and is today preserved as a museum, with exhibits and sounds from a hutong home of a bygone era, giving curious visitors an immersive experience into ancient way of life. Following that, marvel at the exquisite architecture and listen to the ethereal sounds of Jing music by Buddhist monks at ZhiHua temple, a tradition that has been passed down 27 generations through over 500 years.

The Old Legation Quarter
Located Southeast of Tiananmen Square, the tree-lined boulevard of Street is unlike any you will find in Beijing. Formerly the Legation Quarter housing foreign embassies, churches and hotels built in the style of their home country – from the stately colonial-renaissance style of the American Embassy to graceful neo-classical ones of the French Embassy, the western-style buildings mark an unexpected departure from the city’s traditional buildings and government offices, yet one that offer valuable insight into the city’s history.

Chinese philosopher, writer and politician who was of such great historical significance that a shrine dedicated to him was built in 1306, next to the Imperial Academy (GuoZiJian) – a training ground for court officials, which remained China’s highest seat of learning until the end of the imperial rule. Walk the paths of the ancient imperial scholars, examine stone carvings with names of scholars whose achievements in the imperial examinations did not go unrecognised, and gain insights into the life of the controversial figure whose doctrines on compassion, filial piety and duty have influenced people across the world.
